Ontario is Canada's largest market, and the Greater Toronto Area is the place where multi-location HVAC companies most often end up with dozens of near-identical city pages. Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan and Markham sit side by side, and a single branch may serve all of them. Ottawa, the southwest and the north are separate markets with their own needs. Good structure here follows the branches, not the city list.
For Ontario companies, our parent services are HVAC.Agency and HVAC.Digital, which has an Ontario focus.
The Ontario market and its branch patterns
Ontario's largest municipalities are Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, London, Markham and Vaughan. Six of those eight are in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, which explains the pressure to build city pages.
Typical patterns:
- GTA branches serving several adjoining cities. One page per branch territory, such as Peel or York Region, often says more than one page per city.
- Hamilton and Niagara, close enough to the GTA to be served from it, different enough to justify their own branch if staffed.
- Ottawa, a distinct market with its own competitors and a bilingual population.
- Southwestern Ontario, anchored by London, often served by separate branches.
- Northern Ontario, where distances are long and the heating season is colder and longer.
Climate and seasonality
Southern Ontario's winters are cold but moderated near the Great Lakes, and summers are hot enough to make air conditioning a real second season. Northern Ontario has longer, colder heating seasons.
Gas leads in Ontario homes. In 2023, 58% of households heated primarily with natural gas, 18% with electricity and 4% with propane, according to Statistics Canada. Propane matters more for rural and northern branches, which gives their pages genuinely different content from a Toronto page.
Ontario's two strong seasons also mean campaigns flip twice a year: heating in fall and winter, cooling in late spring and summer.
Regulators to know
- TSSA, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority, covers fuels including natural gas, propane and fuel oil, and boilers and pressure vessels. Fuels work is done by TSSA-registered contractors.
- The Electrical Safety Authority licenses electrical contractors. Its rules also bear on how electrical work is advertised, so check ESA's guidance before any branch markets electrical services.
- WSIB is the workers' compensation board.
- Skilled Trades Ontario oversees trade certification.

Programs relevant to branch pages
As of October 2026, these programs were relevant to Ontario heating content. Confirm with the administrator before publishing.
- Home Renovation Savings Program. Delivered by Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas with provincial support, with rebates listed of up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air source heat pump and up to $12,000 for ground source, plus other upgrades. Source: Save on Energy.
- Energy Affordability Program. Free upgrades for income-eligible households, including a limited-time stream with free cold-climate heat pumps for eligible oil-heated homes. Source: Save on Energy.
Ontario had no Canada Greener Homes Affordability agreement as of October 22, 2026.
How we'd approach an Ontario network
- Audit the city pages first. Compare GTA pages side by side. Keep the ones with real local substance, merge the rest into branch-territory pages.
- Branch pages for distinct markets. Ottawa, London and northern branches each get a full page with their own content.
- Profiles for staffed branches. A Vaughan branch lists Markham and Richmond Hill in its service area; it doesn't need a profile in each.
- Two-season campaigns. Heating and cooling budgets by branch, timed to local weather.
- Measure by branch. So a strong GTA branch doesn't hide a weak northern one.
The doorway pages guide includes a step-by-step audit for city pages. See also location pages and the areas hub.
Frequently asked questions
We have pages for 30 GTA cities. Is that a problem?
It depends on what they say. If they're mostly the same text with the city name changed, they fit Google's doorway description and are worth consolidating into branch or territory pages. If each carries genuinely local substance, they can stay.
Should an Ottawa branch have its own site?
Usually not. Ottawa is a separate market, but a strong Ottawa branch page on your main domain, with its own profile and tracked number, gets the benefit of your whole site's reputation. A separate site starts from nothing.
Can our branch pages mention Ontario heat pump rebates?
Yes. As of October 2026, the Home Renovation Savings Program listed rebates for cold-climate air source and ground source heat pumps. Put the details in one Ontario rebates section, link the official page, and date it.
